A collective of Black medical students across Los Angeles, building health initiatives grounded in dignity, trust, and our community's own vision of wellness.
Black Wellness Project LA is a collective of medical students from UCLA, Charles R. Drew University, and UC Irvine. We came together with a shared understanding: that our communities face not just health disparities, but barriers of access, trust, and representation within the medical system itself.
We are future physicians choosing to act now — launching health initiatives that bring care directly to the communities that need it most.

Free health fairs offering screenings, wellness activities, and resource connections in the heart of the communities we serve.
Workshops and listening sessions that give community members the knowledge and tools to advocate for their own health.
Connecting individuals to local services — from social support to specialist care — so that no one falls through the cracks.
Building alongside trusted local organizations to create lasting infrastructure for Black health in Los Angeles.
The Dr. Edith Mitchell Community Health Fair brought free health services and celebration to Baldwin Village.
In our inaugural event, we brought free health services to residents of Baldwin Village — a community where trust in the medical system runs deep, and access to care runs thin. Using our Mind, Body, and Soul framework, we created a space that honored the whole person.
Read Our Full StoryIt’s always good to have any type of event and people showing that they care about the community… it’s not always that we get this. So when we do, we’re grateful. It’s nice to see familiar faces, new faces, and the love that we feel when we’re here.

We’re expanding this year with three initiatives designed to deepen our relationship with Black communities across Los Angeles.
We approach community health holistically. Every event and program we run integrates physical health screenings, mental wellness practices, and community healing. True health — the kind that lasts — touches all three.
Health education, listening sessions, and healing circles that inform, empower, and create space for community voices
Free screenings — blood pressure, glucose, oral cancer, PSA, STI/HIV — bringing care to those with the greatest barriers to access
Yoga, sound baths, massage, music, kids’ activities, and joy — because wellness includes feeling fully alive
